Good things
- Versioning rich text
- Not used to plain text editing, like the WYSIWYG editor, but need version control that is compatible
- People want structured templates / forms to be baked in (but definitely want the option to edit so need clear way to understand the editing)
- Blank pages are scary! Templates please
- Features desired: calendar with to do under it (especially with what it is related to), want to be able to make certain pages have the things on it that they want (?), inventory, directory of names projects with an admin side for orders that need to be purchased breeding things that need to get done, repository for funding opportunities, institutional workflows centralized and accessible and transparent,
- Sharing modified templates is useful
- Some people want cool customizable website and some just don't about how it looks just want to be functional! More modern looking is good.
- Want external vs internal versions: one that volunteers or other orgs can see vs a dashboard with pertinent info for a PI. Basically a website but with more control
- Want reminders for tasks but also reminders for project management (oh planning an event, need to order food by this date)
- Aesthetics important for transition and adoption
- Hard to understand what a "private wiki" is coming from wikipedia, but fandom/wikia is a decent entrypoint
- Visual hierarchy helpful
- Important to have public/private distinction clearly described
- need to work on the SMW ACL extension
- wikipedia/wikis makes it seem like it's always public
- why would we make things public? no incentive to publish our internal protocols and etc.
- need to be clearer about privacy and security limits
- want to be able to easily share witth other labs
- share links? scoped to orgs?
- need to have way of 'requesting permissions' for publishing something, like e.g. a PI might not want to share something
- being able to share and get credit for things would be useful, but complicated a bit by norms around normal scientific sharing e.g. permission from PI
- depends on research position/role - e.g. more relevant for like program managers/other folks that aren't in the usual citations-as-currency system
- make the discussion and talk pages more visible/embedded within pages.
